Sue:
Lucy had a wonderful night! She slept through the night and did not cry even once! I woke up around 5:10
this morning, and was anxious to check on her, and when she saw me peeking at her she got excited, so
her and I got up and went outside for potty and play time. We fed her breakfast at 6:00 and she gobbled it
right up. I could not even begin to anticipate what a wonderful little puppy she would be. As you can
imagine, the boys hated to go to school, and Chris hated to go to work. I on the other hand, am loving
having her all to myself today!!
Have a wonderful weekend, and good luck at the dog show!

Hello Sue,
Lucy is just doing fantastic. She has adjusted so quickly we can’t believe it. She is sleeping through
the night without any problem. She has gone potty outside every time with one exception and she used
her box like a good girl. She adores her toys and love to play fetch.
As for her Vet visit, it went very well. We left them with a copy of the Email you sent to us regarding
the vaccination issues for their information and will discuss it with them on our next visit.

Sue,
I wanted to drop you a line and let you know how Lucy was doing. She has a healthy appetite and is
gaining weight steadily. At her last visit to the vet to receive her 3rd distemper shot, she was just shy of
9lbs. We have another appointment for her this coming Tuesday for a Kennel Cough shot
and I expect her to be around 10lbs give or take a few ounces. During our last visit to the vet for her
distemper, we discussed the Lepto vaccination with them. I'm concerned and at a loss. The vet's typical
policy (We've changed vet's by the way) is to not administer Lepto vaccinations to small dogs unless their
life style warrants it. After indicating that Lucy would very often be camping with us, spending time at our
camp in Maine and hiking with us, they recommended that she be vaccinated due to her access to the
lakes, rivers and streams. Based on your recommendations, I'm at a loss as to what to do. If I avoid the
vaccination and she contracts Lepto, is it treatable? What would put her in a more dangerous situation, the
vaccination or actually contracting the disease? Any guidance you might have on this matter would be
greatly appreciated.
Now for her personality, you could not have picked a more perfect dog for our family. She is so sweat
and affectionate, she just loves to be loved. Everyone in my family that has had the opportunity to meet
her has immediately fallen head over heals for her. She is amazingly active and agile, more so then any
puppy I have ever remembered. Her strength, speed and dexterity rival any full grown dog I've known. Her
favorite pastime is to play with her toys, though not on her own, she needs to play with someone, she loves
to play tug and fetch. She also has all these darling little habits such as bounding on all four feet after a
thrown toy, similar to a gazelle when all four feet strike the ground at the same time across the plains of
Africa and stomping things with her two front feet similar to a bear when it stomps the ground. Whether I'm
playing keep away with one of her toys or she's out back stomping moths, beetles or anything else that's
worth chasing, it's the cutest thing. The other day when my wife went out with her she was stomping the
bajesus out of a poor fat little bumblebee in the clover. Another is to hunt the unsuspecting critters in the
back yard. She gets right down on her belly in the grass with her head low and her back legs sprawled out
behind her and slowly crawls up to her pray and pounces, then runs around like her butt's on fire before
diving back into the grass ready to creep up on the next thing she sees. She loves her little swimming
pool that we bought for her and asks us to fill it whenever she's out back by scratching at it's empty bottom
then jumps in and out of it splashing and having a good old time. She will even stick her entire head
underwater to go after something on the bottom of the pool, I don't remember ever seeing a dog that put its
whole head under water but she does. She plays hard and crashes hard, just like a baby, she'll play until
the moment she flops down and goes to sleep, then she wakes up for another round. She loves her walks
and has learned to come when called and to sit on command, thought at times she chooses to ignore me if
she thinks I don't have a treat in my hand. The biggest training issue right now is that everything has to go
into her mouth if it's not attached to the house or the ground in some manner, so we have to watch her like
a hawk, because I mean everything goes in the mouth, no matter what it is. She is still using her box
regularly when in the house and goes outside just as well, house training her has been so easy. She
just spent her first weekend at the camp in Maine with us over the 4th of July and loved every minute of it.
She took to chasing the red squirrels as often as possible and loved playing in the lake. She inadvertently
went for a swim which gave her a little scare but she was back at the water's edge by
the end of the weekend. She slipped off a rock into the water and had to swim back to shore, which she
did very well by the way. I was right there with her had she needed my help. She has met three of my
families dogs to date and so badly wanted to play with all of them even the 84lb boxer, but they're all older
and didn't want to be bothered so they just ignored her which frustrated her to no end. She has also met
my brother's cat who thinks she's a dog and loved playing with Lucy. They chased each other all around
his house, Booba would stalk her and pounce at her then run as Lucy would gladly give chase, this went on
for hours and hours.
She is a source of enjoyment and entertainment from sun up to sun down and we couldn't love her more.
Thank you for such a wonderful little blessing.
Chris Morrow
